Bog Oak and Bog Yew

Recently I joined a wood sculpting class to help me access my creative abilities.. or so I thought.
It was originally to start in September and I had a planned trip to Canada and I withdrew as I would miss 3 weeks of the 5 week class. It was postponed and when I returned from Canada it was again cancelled due to low numbers in attendance in the local college.

As I am a great participant in accessing the energy of how the Universe provides our thoughts and what we need, sure enough the text arrived yet again for a fresh opportunity to engage with the making of something wonderful.

As you can see after picking my piece of wood Bog Yew in this instance the fun began along with the fear and anticipation of what would I be able to do. I started to clean the peat and soil from the centre of my piece. As you can see I was having a lot of fun.

Bog Oak is the most popular wood when sculpting for its softness, however I picked a piece of Yew. I love the Yew and over the years I have attracted pieces of Yew pieces into my life. I have a beautiful fruit bowl from Tunisia and I recently found out that The cross that that Jesus was crucified was also made of Yew.

These pieces were found in the local bogs and are nearly 6000 years old. Its a privilege to have the opportunity to work with them.  So after 4 weeks of handling and tuning into this piece of wood, I have an updated picture of the woman that I originally found when I picked it.

Next week I get to finish this woman leaning in and looking for support.
